One Country One Priority Product (OCOP)

The implementation of the OCOP is based on the principles of:

  • a collaborative design and country-led implementation;
  • a demand-driven and comparative advantage-oriented approach;
  • integrating production within a value chain approach;
  • an approach centered on agroecological regions and production systems and use of technologies to achieve sustainable outcomes; and
  • a multidisciplinary approach and engagement with different stakeholders.

Participation in the OCOP is open to all FAO Members. Each country is foreseen to select only one priority Special agricultural products (SAPs) for support and coordination by FAO, as per guidelines for resource allocation and sharing of FAO contributions. Countries also have the possibility to use the OCOP framework to target and promote additional SAPs through their own funding or other resources.
