One Health in Agrifood System Transformation Fund

One Health recognizes how the health of people, animals, plants and the environment is interconnected and interdependent. Through a One Health lens, we can better understand and address complex challenges, yielding more efficient and comprehensive solutions.

When One Health is undermined, it has a widespread social and economic impact on well-being and environmental ecosystems around the globe. Greater investment is required at every level to enhance the resilience of agrifood systems in the face of pests, diseases and other threats, including climate change and environmental degradation.

Positive health outcomes can be achieved through transforming agri-food systems and along the agrifood chain by strengthening early warning systems, biosecurity, preparedness and response capacity to manage current emerging and re-emerging risks.

Safeguarding human, animal, plant and ecosystem health

The One Health Fund offers an integrated and comprehensive One Health support package to countries to progress national pathways for transforming agri-food systems through:

  • One Health assessments and planning
  • Coordination
  • Technical support
  • Policy advice and leveraging investment
  • Systems and tools
  • Emergency response
  • Capacity development and the One Health Knowledge Nexus

This Fund is aligned with FAO’s Strategic Framework (2022–2031) and the One Health Priority Programme Area. The programme of work is coordinated with that of the Quadripartite collaboration, forming a fundamental contribution to the One Health Joint Plan of Action to support governments by delivering on priorities identified through the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and regional and national development plans.
