In a dedicated effort to prioritize the safety and well-being of its staff, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations’ (FAO) Headquarters arranged a high-level mission to Pakistan. The mission, led by the Head of Security, Mr Piergiorgio Trentinaglia, and the Head of the Medical Unit, Dr Nazar Aldabbagh, held crucial engagements with FAO staff, local law enforcement departments, and key stakeholders.

The mission commenced with comprehensive meetings with FAO staff in Islamabad, Sindh, and Punjab. Utilizing virtual channels, the Heads of Security and Medical Units connected with field teams to discuss essential safety and security protocols. Employees received a refresher on emergency response procedures, emphasizing the importance of individual actions in averting potential risks.

Among the key topics addressed were questions and concerns related to insurance coverage, safety protocols, and the security of international staff. The interactive sessions provided a platform for staff to gain insights into how they could actively contribute to their safety and well-being.

In Islamabad, the delegation held a significant meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP). UNDSS Chief Security and FAO's Head of Security met with the IGP to discuss the security situation in the capital. The IGP assured the delegation that the security environment in Islamabad is remained stable. Furthermore, the IGP extended an offer to provide training facilities to enhance the capabilities of UNDSS staff and underscored the potential benefits of UN security trainings for police department officials.

Another crucial meeting was held with World Health Organization management in Islamabad, participated by Dr Nazar Aldabbagh and Assistant FAO Representative (Admin) in Pakistan, Ms Maria Usman. Discussion was revolved around training and capacity building of FAO staff on health related issues, particularly on First Aid and Automated Electric Defibrillator.

Moving beyond the capital, the mission met with security personnel in Peshawar and Quetta. These engagements included discussions with UNDSS staff, meetings with the police commandant of Peshawar Agriculture University (home to the FAO Peshawar office), and briefings from UNDSS Peshawar and Quetta on the regional security landscape, particularly in anticipation of upcoming elections.

The mission underscored FAO's unwavering commitment to the safety and security of its staff operating in diverse environments. By fostering collaborations with local law enforcement departments and ensuring continuous training and awareness, FAO aims to create a secure working environment for its dedicated personnel in Pakistan and beyond.

As the delegation concluded its mission, the emphasis on proactive measures and collaborative efforts remained at the forefront of FAO's ongoing commitment to staff welfare and security.
