The workshop will summarise scientific and technically-oriented aspects of fishing gear recycling, as well as case studies of real-world examples of gear recycling, with the aims to:

1. Identify current practices and mechanisms that allow the recycling of unwanted fishing gear (including end-of-life fishing gear and recovered Abandoned, Lost and otherwise Discarded Fishing Gear) and Extended Producer Responsibility;
2. How could these practices be incentivised or possibly regulated; and
3. Define opportunities and challenges that such practices/mechanisms present.

Discussions and key findings from the workshop will inform the development of a GloLitter background study on Fishing Gear Recycling.
