Within the framework of a technical cooperation partnership in post-crisis response and recovery, ILO and FAO hold an event on Planning for Livelihood Recovery on Thursday 7th June 2007 at the Centre International des Conférences de Genève (CICG). This event forms part of a broader three-day conference launching the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, organized by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction.

Following the welcome remarks by Mr. Sergei Ordzhonikidze, Director General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, and the opening statement by Mr. Jose Manuel Salazar, Executive Director of the Employment Sector of the ILO, a round table discussion took place. Speakers drew on recent country experiences (Bolivia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka), focusing on livelihood assessment and recovery including the development of the Integrated Livelihood Assessment and Response System and the Pre-Disaster Recovery Planning Initiative.
