SAVE FOOD at the Global Green Growth (3GF) Regional Africa Conference in Nairobi

01 Jun 2015

The Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction was showcased at the first African Regional Green Growth Forum to discuss how Public Private Partnerships can facilitate action to improve the efficiency of food value chains and contribute to low carbon development. FAO presented the challenge of global food loss and waste and highlighted the need for partnerships and collaboration between all actors throughout the food supply chain to identify causes and innovative solutions to prevent losses and waste. Participants raised issues such as lack of markets and poor connection between areas where there is an oversupply of food and regions with food scarcity. Furthermore, discussions explored approaches and opportunities for improving the investment climate in agro-businesses across Africa and how to engage consumers and promote long-term behavioural changes to prevent food waste.
