Responses to climate change and emergencies

Part 6 of the Voluntary Guidelines addresses the governance of tenure in the context of climate change, natural disasters and conflicts. These situations can cause people to move and to have to be relocated on a massive scale.

Climate change

Legitimate tenure rights to land, fisheries and forests should be respected and protected by laws, policies, strategies and actions with the aim to prevent and respond to the effects of climate change. Read more

 

 

Conflict

When conflicts arise, legitimate tenure rights of refugees and displaced persons should be recognised, respected and protected. When conflicts cease, tenure problems should be addressed in ways that support durable solutions for those affected. Read more
