Asian Farmers Association

AFA is a regional alliance of 20 national federations and organizations of small-scale farmers and producers, both women and men, from 13 countries in Asia.

It was established in 2002 after a series of farming exchange visits organized by a strategic NGO partner, AsiaDHRRA (the Asian Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Asia).

AFA works with NGOs to facilitate the formation of national farmers’ organizations and to build their capacity to advocate for farmers’ rights. It also works to advance the trading and marketing of its members’ products and to encourage the solidarity and exchange of information on agriculture and farming development among members.

WAW and AFA

WAW held joint national and regional workshops with AFA in November 2017 (in the Philippines) and May 2018 during the AFA’s General Assembly. WAW plans to hold workshops in selected regions every year to share experience and raise awareness.

WAW has been invited to a number of key meetings, leading to project formulation activities with various farming organizations, including a potential collaboration with AFA on regional investment-strategy guidance to help farms in Asia adapt to climate change.
