Thomas Hofer, a Swiss geographer who carried out his Masters and PhD studies in the Himalayan Region, has been responsible for the programme on watershed management, sustainable mountain development and forest hydrology at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome since 1998. In 2012, he also began serving as the Coordinator of the Mountain Partnership Secretariat.
