Universidad de la República is the public university of Uruguay founded on 18 July 1849 in Montevideo.

Instituto de Investigaciones Pesqueras: The Institute belonging to the University of the Republic Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Montevideo. The main research areas are marine and fisheries biology, oceanography, aquatic ecology and environment, environmental impact, coastal and continental fishery resources. The Fisheries Research Institute was created by resolution of the Central Board of Directors of the University of the Republic of November 24, 1961, at the proposal of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Uruguay.
