FAO's Forestry and Plant Production and Protection Divisions are co-hosting a webinar on agroforestry to support the planning of joint activities on production and landscape management systems where crops, trees and animals converge in time and space.  The webinar aims to highlight how agroforestry systems that apply the elements of agroecology improve short- and long-term outcomes for farmers and maximize the potential ecological benefits of agroforestry systems. Agroforestry’s contributions to biodiversity conservation, restoration, and the provision of other ecosystem services are well-established, but in order to realize its full benefits, agroforestry needs to be further recognized for its role in fostering transformative change and transitions to sustainable food systems. The webinar will feature a moderated panel discussion with expert speakers bringing in a range of perspectives, including agroforestry policy, financing, extension, and knowledge creation. The panel discussion will aim to unpack some of the overarching questions surrounding agroforestry, including its role in climate change adaptation and mitigation, nutrition security and biodiversity conservation as well as the importance of managing trade-offs and enabling conditions to overcome the main barriers to sustainable implementation and scaling up.
