UNDP, FAO, Agroecology Fund, International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES FOOD) and Ecoagriculture Partners present a Café Webinar onSustainable Food Systems for a Resilient Planet and Healthy People that will be broadcast live.

Over half of the world population is directly engaged in agriculture for survival. Yet in almost 40% of the land devoted for agriculture and livestock, water sources are depleted and contaminated by food production and unhealthy urban diets, over-burdening health care systems. The agriculture sector represents a major challenge and a tremendous opportunity for the realization of the SDGs. The FAO-led United Nations Initiative Scaling Up Agroecology Initiative aims to show how diversified agroecological systems can contribute not only to addressing poverty, hunger, climate change mitigation and adaptation, but also to realizing SDGs on health, education, gender, water, energy, economic growth and others in an integrated way.

What could be the transformative approach that challenges the status quo? What it takes to scale up diversified agroecological systems? What are the working examples of the scaling up efforts?

This EBD Café targets UN and government staff around the world to learn about the Agroecology Initiative and the opportunity it provides for the participating UN organizations, governments and non-governmental stakeholders to join forces in the transition to sustainable food systems. The webinar will also showcase some experiences from India, Kenya and Honduras.
