Matica Srpska Library ( MSL )
The Matica Srpska Library (MSL) is the oldest Serbian library of national importance and the first public and scientific library of the Serbs. Together with the Matica Srpska Literary Society, it was founded in Pest (Hungary) in 1826 and moved to Novi Sad in 1864. Today, the MSL has a rich collection of old and rare books, which has been carefully developed from the very beginning. Over four million publications in 132 languages are kept in the Library and made available to users. The Library collections have regularly been enlarged by legal deposit, Serbian Ministry of Culture acquisitions, the Library’s own acquisitions, by exchanged publications and gifts, as well as by FAO and UNESCO depository materials. The MSL successfully connect its rich tradition with demands and needs of the modern information age.
