Sao Tome and Principe

Area equipped for irrigation was 9 700 ha in year 1991 [ST01]. The irrigated area is visible in the table below and also can be downloaded as Sao Tome and Principe irrigation areas in PDF or Sao Tome and Principe irrigation areas in Excel. No sub-national information on areas equipped for irrigation was available.

The area equipped for irrigation was assigned to the North-Eastern part of the Sao Tome island which was reported to receive the lowest amount of annual precipitation and to temporary suffer from a precipitation deficit [ST01].

Based on the harvested area of irrigated crops reported in [ST01] for 1991 it was assumed that the whole area equipped for irrigation was actually irrigated in that year. All irrigation is reported to be from surface water sources [ST01].
