I am pleased to inform you that the World Food Day Theme for 2012 is "Agricultural cooperatives – key to feeding the world,” which has been chosen to highlight the role of cooperatives in improving food security and contributing to the eradication of hunger.  

We are informing you of the official theme now so that you can share it with your local stakeholders and partners with a view to providing them enough lead time for planning their respective World Food Day activities. Some activities might even be initiated now as the theme is very topical and 2012 has been declared International Year of Cooperatives.

It should be noted that 2012 will mark the 67^th anniversary of the Organization's founding, and the 32^nd observance of World Food Day. World Food Week will be celebrated at FAO headquarters in Rome from 15 to 20 October, 2012.
