16/09/2021 Seoul

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Korea Association of International Development and Cooperation (KAIDEC) have announced a new chapter of cooperation intended to expand collaboration and take advantage of international development opportunities.

A Letter of Agreement signed today at the FAO Partnership and Liaison Office (PLO) in the Republic of Korea (ROK), Seoul, will focus on establishing a partnership and resource mobilization strategy to enhance the visibility of FAO in ROK.

The agreement, which covers the period until 31 August 2022, will create an opportunity for FAO to increase partnership and engagement activities with ROK by analyzing the most updated priorities of its partners in ROK, identifying new areas and partners to mobilize resources and share ROK’s best practices to support FAO and its work with Member nations.

Achieving synergy through collaboration

At today’s signing ceremony, Shengyao Tang, Representative and Head of the FAO PLO in ROK, expressed his appreciation and encouragement for this new endeavor. “As the first FAO Representative of the PLO in the Republic of Korea, I emphasize the importance of revisiting existing cooperation between FAO and ROK and exploring a new momentum for a stronger relationship. I will assure that this collaboration on establishing a partnership and resource mobilization strategy contributes to finding potential opportunities to take a step forward.”

Also, the president of KAIDEC, Sung Gyu Kim mentioned, “Building on FAO’s strong partnership with ROK, KAIDEC is confident that we can create a path to support FAO on establishing a concrete partnership and resource mobilization strategy with our extensive experiences in establishing international cooperation strategies for ROK’s Government and public agencies.”

The FAO PLO in ROK, launched in April 2021, aims to create more ways to make outstanding partnerships through cooperation with partners in ROK.
