FAO REPRESENTATIVE IN BOTSWANA

Ms. Carla Elisa Luis Mucavi, a national of Mozambique, holds a Master of Cooperation and Development Planning from the Sapienza University in Italy, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the Institute of Higher Studies in International Relations in Mozambique. 

Ms. Mucavi joined FAO in 2015 as Director of the FAO Liaison Office with the United Nations (LON) in New York, United States. From November 2020, she has been serving as FAO Representative in Kenya. Prior to joining FAO in 2015, Ms. Mucavi was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mozambique to Italy, Greece and Malta, and Permanent Representative to FAO, WFP, and IFAD, in Rome, Italy. In 2013, she chaired the African Regional Group of the Permanent Representatives in Rome. 

Ms. Mucavi started her career in 1989 as Third Secretary in the Division for International Organizations and Conferences at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Mozambique. Since then she held positions of increasing responsibility such as First Secretary at the Embassy of Mozambique in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Chief of Cabinet of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Mozambique; Counsellor at the Embassy of Mozambique in Italy, Rome; Minister Counsellor in charge of Nordic countries in the Division for Europe and America in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Maputo; and Deputy Director of State Protocol at the Presidency of the Republic of Mozambique.
