Strategic Alignment

FAO Botswana country office was officially established in Botswana in 1987 as a multi-accredited office under the Southern Africa FAO Sub-Regional office in Zimbabwe. In June 2018, the office was elevated to a fully-fledged office, marking a great milestone for the Organization and the Government of Botswana.

FAO’s mission is to work with the Government of Botswana towards building a food-secure country, free of hunger and malnutrition, where food and agriculture contribute to improving the living standards of all, especially the most vulnerable, in an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable manner. In collaboration with other UN agencies, FAO's role in supporting the Government of Botswana is aligned and embedded in the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2022–2026.

In executing its mission, the Country Programming Framework of Botswana 2022 - 2026 is guided by the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31, a plan to support the 2030 Agenda through the transformation of agri-food systems. The Framework aims to achieve better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, contributing to the achievement of the SDGs, leaving no one behind.
