CAMILK 2024 – Fostering Camel Milk Value Chain: Challenges and Future Perspectives facing Global Changes

The first edition of the international seminar CAMILK was organized in June 2022. In the context of the International Year of Camelids and coinciding with the closure of the MECAMEL project, the “Laboratoire d'Élevage et de Faune Sauvage” (LEFS) and the “Institut des Régions Arides” (IRA) Médenine organized the second edition of the international seminar “CAMILK 2024 – Fostering camel milk value chain: Challenges and future perspectives facing global changes”. The event was organized in partnership with the Office of Livestock and Pastures (OEP) and other international organizations, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), among others.

OBJECTIVES

  • Celebrate the International Year of Camelids by presenting results of research on dairy camel products and productivity with a wide scientific committee.
  • Share and exchange the experiences and reflections of various stakeholders in the camel milk value chain (scientists, policy-makers, development practitioners, private sector professionals, NGOs, cooperation agencies, etc.) for supporting the sector.
  • Identify the opportunities and perspectives in order to promote the camel milk value chain in the face of climate and socio-economic changes.

  • Theme 1: Management, feeding, and health of dairy camels
  • Theme 2: Dairy Camels’ biology: Genetics, physiology and reproduction
  • Theme 3: Nutritional and therapeutic qualities of camel milk and dairy products
  • Theme 4: Organization, governance, and development of the camel milk sector
