Tamesna Festival ''Camel based ecotourism development''

To promote the cultural traditions and camel tourism of Tamesna, the first edition of the Tamesna Festival was held in In Guezzam from 12 to 14 December 2024. This eventhighlighted the unique charm of Tamesna, rooted in camel culture and traditional knowledge.

The festival featured camel races, showcasing the richness of Algerian's cultural heritage. It not only promoted heritage values but also the spirit of competition among racers. The races attracted 160 camel racers from the provinces, celebrating camel owners and heritage enthusiasts while honouring a tradition that has been integral to In Guezzam’s cultural identity for centuries.

During the festival, visitors enjoyed a wide variety of activities, including cultural performances, traditional crafts and culinary camel tastings. The festival featured panel sessions that allowed attendees to learn more about the socio-economic dimensions of camel breeding.
