Bilateral meeting with His Excellency Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand

Bangkok – FAO Director-General QU Dongyu and H.E. Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, met during the Director-General’s visit to Bangkok.

The Director-General expressed his sincere appreciation to the Thai government for hosting the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific since 1953, and the pair agreed to continue working together on joint actions to ensure effective delivery and to further strengthen collaboration in the future.

The Director-General provided an overview of the flagship FAO Hand-in-Hand Initiative and the FAO Green Cities Initiative, and highlighted the important support provided by the late King of Thailand for the establishment of the World Soil Day celebrated annually on 5 December, as well the International Year of Soil held in 2015.

The Director-General encouraged the Government of Thailand to utilize the FAO Regional Office in Bangkok as a platform to share experiences and knowledge with other countries in the Asia and the Pacific region, and beyond.

The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to continue supporting FAO on key global matters of mutual concern.
