Read-out of the bilateral meeting between FAO Director-General QU Dongyu and El-Tahir Ismail Mohamed Harbi, Federal Minister for Agriculture and Forests, the Republic of Sudan

27 July 2021, Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu today met with. El-Tahir Ismail Mohamed Harbi, Federal Minister for Agriculture and Forests, the Republic of Sudan.

The Director-General reiterated his congratulations to the people and Government of Sudan on the recent progressive developments, notably the signing of the comprehensive peace agreement and the formation of the Government of national unity, noting that the agricultural sector is one of the top priorities of the Sudanese Government.

The Minister of Agriculture and Forests of Sudan expressed his appreciation of the key role of FAO in supporting agriculture transformation in Sudan, especially in the framework of the Hand in Hand initiative, the conduct of the first-ever Comprehensive Agricultural Census, the FAO-China South-South cooperation (SSC) as well as the establishment the Agriculture Transformation Agency (ATA).

The two sides agreed to continue their cooperation, focusing on the comparative advantages of Sudan and supporting the Government in accessing additional technical and financial support, including climate financing.
