Bilateral Meeting with H.E Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt

Cairo - H.E. Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, received the Director-General of FAO, QU Dongyu, in Cairo.

The President welcomed the visit of the Director-General to Egypt, emphasizing the key role of FAO in supporting food security and agriculture development in Egypt and in the region.

The Director-General expressed his appreciation to the President and the Government of Egypt for the long-standing support to the Organization, including through hosting the FAO Regional Office.

The Director-General applauded Egypt's key regional role and Egypt's efforts to alleviate the humanitarian situation in Gaza. He welcomed the government's ongoing efforts to achieve sustainable development, create job opportunities and improve life and livelihood especially in the rural areas, and transform its agrifood systems, and reiterated FAO’s continued support to the Egyptian efforts i this regard.

The Director-General further emphasized the importance of using technology and innovation, high-productivity seeds, and new irrigation technology to support national priorities and agricultural development.

The two sides agreed that Egypt will continue to work closely with FAO to promote South-South and Triangular Cooperation, focusing on African countries.
