Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, Minister for Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania

Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met with H.E. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, Minister for Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania at FAO headquarters. 

The Director General welcomed H.E. the Minister emphasizing the growing cooperation between FAO and Mauritania.

H.E Minister Saleh provided an overview of the Government's efforts to achieve sustainable development, eradicate poverty, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions, highlighting the key role of his Ministry in this regard. The Minister also referred to the Government's plans to increase agricultural productivity, boost self-sufficiency and the export of agricultural commodities.

The Director-General reiterated FAO’s continued support for the Government's efforts to transform its agrifood systems and address the different challenges facing the agriculture sector, working closely with resource partners and International Financial Institutions.

H.E the Minister and the Director-General agreed to continue the engagements between FAO and the Government to strengthen bilateral cooperation focusing on sustainable agriculture, the fisheries sector, and livestock.
