Bilateral meeting with H.E. Bisher Al-Khasawneh, Prime Minister of Jordan

Amman - The FAO Director General, QU Dongyu, met with H.E. Bisher Al-Khasawneh, Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, together with other Ministers participating in the 37th Session of the FAO Regional Ministerial Conference for the Near East and North Africa.

The Prime Minister welcomed the Director-General and the Ministers and referred to the importance of the FAO Regional Conference, especially when the World, and the region in particular, are facing increasing challenges related to food security. The Prime Minister appreciated FAO continued support to Jordan highlighting the importance of regional cooperation and the Regional Observatory for Food Security in the Mashreq Region developed by FAO and offering an interactive dashboard of essential statistics, trends and forecasts on food production, consumption, stocks, trade, sustainability, and nutrition.

The Director-General expressed his appreciation to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for hosting the conference and stressed the importance of enhanced cooperation between FAO and countries in the region to transform agrifood systems and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and the Four Betters: better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.

The Director-General reiterated that FAO can play a pivotal role in bolstering the region's agrifood systems’ resilience to crises and conflicts in cooperation with all countries in the region.
