Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, and H.E. Arman Khojoyan, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, met at FAO headquarters in Rome on the sidelines of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe (ERC) to discuss ways to further strengthen cooperation between FAO and Armenia.

The Director-General recalled the last meeting with the Deputy Minister on the margins of the UNFSS+2 Stocktaking Moment in July 2023, and the Deputy Minister as a National Convenor of the UN Food Systems Dialogues emphasized the importance of working on agrifood systems as a whole to achieve the 2030 Agenda and leave no one behind.

The Director-General noted several unique competitive advantages of Armenia’s agriculture sector, including access to the Eurasian Economic Union market; a compact geographic footprint and favourable agro-climatic zones for high-value plants.

The Deputy Minister and the Director-General agreed to continue working together towards the transformation of agrifood systems, including through the UN Food Systems Dialogues, and to further strengthen the fruitful relations between the Organization and the Republic of Armenia.
