COP28

Inauguration of the Food and Agriculture Pavilion

Opening Remarks

By

Dr QU Dongyu, FAO Director-General

2 December 2023

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I am pleased to inaugurate the Food and Agriculture Pavilion at COP28.

For the second year running, FAO is proud to partner with the CGIAR, the Rockefeller Foundation, and now IFAD, to showcase how together as partners we support countries and farmers to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis, improve food security and nutrition, and safeguard our natural resources.

Throughout COP28, the Pavilion will be a platform for dialogue, learning, and collaboration with governments, civil society, private sector, academia, youth, and all partners.

Here, you will find inspiring examples of agrifood systems transformation in action.

Solutions that are delivering impactful results through better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life – leaving no one behind.

In this space you can see the different ways in which science, technology, innovation, and data are critical for effective climate policies and informed decision-making.

You can see how equitable, inclusive and gender responsive transformation is a foundation for the transformation to more efficient, more inclusive, more resilient, and more sustainable agrifood systems.

You can discover how holistic, integrated approaches can address the interlinked climate, food, nutrition, water, land, biodiversity, and energy challenges.

I invite you all to visit our Pavilion throughout COP28 and to engage with the exhibitors, speakers, and the climate and food and agriculture community.

Let us use our common house to nurture our collaboration for greater impact, to make agrifood systems’ solutions the climate solutions!

Thank you.
