PCP Support Officers (PSOs)

The Regional Roadmap meetings help to refine monitoring and compliance to the Progressive Control Pathway for FMD (PCP-FMD) at regional and national level. These meetings assist countries make positive steps in the progressive control of Foot-and-mouth disease.

The increasing importance of PSOs

The EuFMD, with the support of the FMD-WG, support monitoring and the effective application of the PCP-FMD at country level, through use of PCP support officers (PSOs). PSOs will communicate regularly with individuals and participant countries between Roadmap meetings. PSOs support participant commitment and encourage countries to align their PCP-FMD strategy to the required standard at national level.

The outcomes

  • To provide support to countries requesting services. 
  • Veterinary authorities in FMD endemic countries, will be informed about PCP principles.
  • There will be direct liaison with FMD focal points from countries in PCP-FMD Stages 0-3 to promote actively and sustain adherence to requirements.
  • Maintain a comprehensive overview of FMD control activities in countries assessed in PCP-FMD Stage 0-3.
  • Establish regular contact with the FMD Working Group and FAO/WOAH reporting on activities and outcomes on PSO and country progress.
