Second Workshop of the Central Asian Animal Health Network (CAAHN)

FAO, with the support by OIE, is successfully implementing the project on Establishing a Central Asia Animal Health Network (CAAHN) under the FAO Technical Cooperation Programme with the active participation of the Veterinary Services of the Central Asian countries. 

Within the framework of this project, the first workshop on the establishment of an Animal Health Network in Central Asia took place on 14 – 15 November 2019 in Uzbekistan, where the senior management of veterinary services as well as the representatives of the epidemiological and laboratory network from the Central Asian region took an active participation.  

As a result of the above-mentioned event, the beneficiary countries identified the priority diseases as brucellosis, rabies, foot and mouth disease, anthrax and echinococcosis. Based on the identified priorities, some activities were conducted since the first meeting, namely the exchange of brucellosis data, as well as to conduct a series of missions to the beneficiary countries; (1) Surveillance assessments using the Surveillance Evaluation Tool (SET), (2) Laboratory assessments using the Laboratory Mapping Tool (LMT),  (3) Brucellosis assessment missions, (4) The regional meeting on Echinococcosis for Central Asia and South Caucasian countries. 

FAO, in collaboration with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) will organize the 2nd Meeting of the Central Asian Animal Health Network (CAAHN) during 8 and 9 December 2021 under the Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) project (TCP/SEC/3702).
