STREAM+

The project supports Mongolia’s green and digital transition for inclusive and sustainable rural development. It ultimately aims to transform Mongolia’s agriculture and forestry sectors into climate-resilient, inclusive, and competitive rural economies, aligning with national priorities and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.

STREAM+ supports Mongolia’s efforts to strengthen climate resilience, enhance sustainable ecosystem management, and develop agrifood and forestry value chains through innovation, policy improvement, and capacity development. By working in close collaboration with national and local authorities, research institutions, herder cooperatives, and the private sector, STREAM+ enhances ecosystem resilience, food security, and rural livelihoods.

The project is designed around four major objectives:

  1. Improve the regulatory and policy framework for sustainable, climate-sensitive, and gender-inclusive management of forests and agricultural areas and a fit-for-purpose Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector;
  2. Promote integrated landscape management addressing food system challenges and climate change;
  3. Develop sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture and forestry value chains; and
  4. Enhance the TVET system to meet labor market needs, with stronger private sector engagement and increased participation of women and girls.

FAO works with the livestock sector to promote science-based breeding and value chain development, aligning with the Organization’s global frameworks on sustainable livestock transformation. This includes introducing embryo transfer and artificial insemination technologies to improve beef cattle productivity and cashmere goat breed, and facilitating partnerships between herders and processors to enhance traceability and product quality.
