The smallholder farmers' dataportrait is a comprehensive, systematic and standardized data set on the profile of smallholder farmers across the world. It generates an image on how small family farmers in developing and emerging countries live their lives. It is about putting in numbers, the constraints they face, and the choices they make so that policies can be informed by evidence to meet the challenge of agricultural development. Currently, the data portrait provides information for nineteen countries.

Family on-farm labour (person days) : total family labor supplied on farm over a day period, that is the total number of person-days divided by the number of working days in a year - here 300 days.
Hired labour (person days ): total of hired labor days over a day period, that is the total number of person-days worked divided by the number of working days in a year - here 300 days.
Family labour supplied off-farm (person days): total family labor supplied off farm over a day period, that is the total number of person-days worked divided by the number of working days in a year - here 300 days.
