Small-scale farmers can play an important role in establishing long-term food systems. But, as Sabrina Elba, UN Goodwill Ambassador for the International Fund for Agricultural Development, explains, additional investment is required. She tells a story about the importance of agriculture based on her recent trips to Sierra Leone. She explained, "I understood in Sierra Leone that if we want to empower women and young people, as well as properly care for our land and planet, we must care about the people who sow the seeds around us: smallholder farmers all over the world. They are the stewards of our world."
