Meeting of the FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva with the UN General Assembly, Miroslav Lajčák,

In a meeting with the FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva today in New York, the President of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly, Miroslav Lajčák, recognized FAO as “well-aligned” with the UN General Assembly priorities, such as migration, sustaining peace and climate change.

Graziano da Silva congratulated Lajčák on his appointment and offered FAO’s support during the term following the successful collaboration with the former PGA, Ambassador Peter Thomson.

They agreed on the importance of focusing on the root causes of migration, such as rural poverty, food insecurity, lack of employment, and vulnerability to natural disasters and climate change.
