Youth: Present and Future of Agriculture and Family Farming

Almost 88 percent of the world’s 1.2 billion youth live in developing countries. Although the global youth population is expected to grow, employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for young women and men remain limited, particularly in rural areas of developing countries. At the same time, there is a largely untapped reservoir of farm and non-farm employment opportunities in the agricultural sector. This poster highlights the importance of engaging youth in agriculture and family farming and provides an overview of FAO's effort to respond to the youth employment challenge in rural areas.
