Drought Mitigation in Cabo Verde

Cabo Verde is suffering a severe process of desertification, intensified by climate changes and hazards, such as drought. In the year 2017, there was almost no rain in the country. Most of the livestock become at risk and farmers depending on rain-fed agriculture lost most of its production. Thus, Government needed to call for emergency aid with the support of FAO. After an intense resource mobilization process, Government raised 10M EUR to implement a project to mitigate the effects of the drought with 3 components: Livestock rescue, Water scarcity management and Creation of Employment for affected households. The documentary explains these components and includes several testimonials from cattle farmers affected by the drought.
