Norup Farm

Norup Farm is situated in Skåne, 20 km north of Kristianstad, in South Sweden. It is owned and cultivated by the Norup family and has been in the family since the beginning of the 20th century. The main crop is potato, but there is also a production of cereals, peas, flax, and refined vegetable oils. Close to the farm are residential areas and the Helge River, which is one of the larger waters in the region. It is running from an extensive forest land in north to the Baltic Sea.

The farm consists of about 170 ha of arable land, and 25 ha forest. The focus is crop production with potato as main crop and the production is managed on fields well consolidated around the farm center. To the most distant fields it is 1,5 km. The entire area can be irrigated through a drainage pipe. The crop rotation is potato/ cereal/ potato/ cereal/ cereal alt. beets/ peas alt. oil seeds/ cereal. The potato production includes both starch potato and ware potato. The soil texture varies greatly on the farm. The share of green land has varied somewhere between 65-75 % during the last years.

Flax is produced on the farm, as a part of the work to implement interesting energy and industry crops. For a few years there have been activities to enable refining of cold-pressed oil to use for products on the grocery market, and a bio refinery for vegetable oils is in use.
