Fårdala Farm

Fårdala Farm is run by Claes and Gunnar Bergstrand, together with their families. Claes and Gunnar, who are first cousins, are the third generation on the farm. The business is operated as a sole propriatorship formed in 1991.   Fårdala is located on the slope of Varvsberget Mountain about 15 km east of Falköping. There are significant differences in level both between different parts of the farm and within individual fields.

The focus is typical for the area – extensive livestock farming in combination with crop production based on the cultivation of forage and feed grains. The soil type is stone rich moraine soil and in large parts there are humus soils.

The farm has a dairy herd, mainly SRB. Recently a new loose housing barn with 94 boxes was taken into use. All manure in the new stable is handled as slurry, resulting in increased nutrient utilization. Returns are currently 8600 kg milk. Bull calves are delivered to farms in the county. A stream flows through the farm. Since this stream is rich in natural and environmental values, it is essential to handle plant nutrition and pesticides in a way that does not cause damage to the environment. On Fårdala several measures has been implemented to enable a production that takes both product quality and a good production environment into account.
