Local knowledge strategies of adaptation in livestock producers in San Vicente del Caguán-Colombia

The livestock has been affected by climate change causing reduced productivity and poor development of the animal. With the purpose of knowing the different adaptive strategies used by farmers on San Vicente (Colombia), knowledge was characterized through a semi-structured interview; seven research themes were established according to the knowledge base of the producer; information was systematized, processed and analyzed through software AKT5 (Agro Ecological Knowledge Toolkit). Using the knowledge and experience of producers the causes and effects generated from climate change were identified, furthermore perception and service of tree species found in the grassland. With the information obtained a base of 442 sentences was created of which 15.83% was of Attribute-Value 84.16% as causal, the remaining comparison was organized in diagrams and special themes. According to perception and knowledge producer’s on adaptation to climate change, changes are set to improve the production and adaptation strategies in the farms as tree species used for livestock shading that improve the profi tability and productivity of the animal.
