The Ninth Session of the Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Forest Genetic Resources will be held at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy from 27 to 29 May 2026. The meeting will open on Wednesday, 27 May 2026 at 10:00 hours. The Session will be held in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

As requested by the Commission, the Working Group will review options for improving the reporting process for future global assessments of forest genetic resources. In addition, the Working Group will consider the implementation of the Global Plan of Action for the Conservation, Sustainable Use and Development of Forest Genetic Resources. The Commission further requested the Working Group to consider cross-sectoral matters, such as the role of genetic resources for food and agriculture in mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change; and the review of progress in the implementation of the Commission’s Multi-year Programme of Work and the Strategic Plan.
