أعلنت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة سنة 2021 السنة الدولية للفواكه والخضروات ، وأنشأت منظمة الأغذية والزراعة اللجنة التوجيهية الدولية للسنة الدولية للفواكه والخضروات لتقوم بما يلي:
• توجيه وضع خطة العمل الخاصة بالسنة الدولية للفواكه والخضروات وتنفيذها؛
• وتنشيط الحوار مع الشركاء؛
• والمساعدة في حشد الدعم السياسي والمالي للسنة الدولية.
تضمّ السنة الدولية للفواكه والخضروات 20 عضوًا ومن بينهم
• ستة ممثلين دائمين (وستة ممثلين مناوبين) عن ستّ مجموعات إقليمية للمنظمة؛
• وما يصل إلى ثمانية ممثلين عن وكالات الأمم المتحدة والمنظمات الدولية؛ والأوساط الأكاديمية ومعاهد البحوث؛ ومنظمات المجتمع المدني؛ ومنظمات المزارعين العالمية؛ والقطاع الخاص.
