Rome Italy 22/10/2024

On October 21, 2024, during the 52nd session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), the Chairperson, Mr. Khalid Mehboob, delivered a Joint Statement on behalf of the Group of 77 and China. The statement addressed the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) report, under Agenda Item II.

The statement underscored the CFS as one of the most important committees within FAO, highlighting its inclusive nature and global relevance. Members called for intensified efforts toward the progressive realization of the right to adequate food within the context of national food security, aiming to achieve a world free from hunger. They stressed the need for concrete actions and urged the international community to address persistent global challenges, including hunger, malnutrition, inequalities, global shocks, and conflicts.

The Group welcomed the launch of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty by Brazil, describing it as a key initiative for promoting South-South and Triangular cooperation. The alliance seeks to mobilize resources and share knowledge on successful public policies, many of which developed by countries in the Global South. It represents a significant step toward fostering global solidarity and encouraging collaboration.

The Joint Statement delivered at the CFS reflects the Group's active efforts and strengthens its collective voice in advancing the shared interests of developing countries.
