G77 & China Plenary meeting in preparation for the 176th FAO Council
On 22 November 2024, the G77 & China convened to finalize preparations for the 176th Session of the FAO Council, scheduled to take place from 2 to 6 December 2024 at FAO Headquarters in Rome.
The meeting, chaired by Mr. Khalid Mehboob, featured a briefing from the IPPC Secretariat on the critical role of plant health in advancing the One Health initiative (For more information about the IPPC Secretariat, refer to the related news piece here).
Mr. Rakesh Muthoo, Secretary-General of the Conference and Council, addressed the members, providing essential updates on the preparations for the upcoming Council session.
Key agenda items also included the G77 & China's nominations for the 176th Council Bureau, a proposed Joint statement on behalf of the Group, and financial and administrative updates.
The Group reaffirmed its commitment to cohesive action in FAO, striving to advance the shared goals of developing countries.
