General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean - GFCM

Fisheries are at the heart of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. From food security to family livelihoods, from economic growth to ecosystem services, so much in the region depends on the effective and sustainable management of its rich marine resources.

The State of Mediterranean and Black Sea Fisheries 2020 (SoMFi 2020) is the definitive reference source on the subject. Developed by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), the latest edition of the biennial report – to be published on 14 December – will be the most detailed ever released.

This is an invaluable tool to understand the dynamics of the sector, make strategic decisions and monitor their impacts.

Reflecting how deeply fisheries are a part of the socioeconomic fabric of the region, SoMFi 2020 will reveal a wealth of new data on the state of fishery resources and vulnerable species, the makeup of the regional fleet, the contribution of the sector to the blue economy, and the measures taken to preserve it. It will also throw a spotlight on social issues for workers, particularly in the small-scale fisheries that support so many coastal communities.

Join us on 14 December 2020, from 11:00 to 11:30 CET, for a presentation of the
State of the Mediterranean and Black Sea Fisheries 2020.

The event will consist of a brief presentation of key data and findings followed by a Q&A session in which all participants will be welcome to take part.

Interpretation will be provided in Arabic, English, French and Spanish.
