The Working Group on Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (WGIUU), including a session on the clarification process, was held on 14–15 May 2024 at FAO headquarters, in Rome, Italy. The meeting was attended by 57 participants, who reviewed information presented by the GFCM Secretariat in the context of the identification and clarification process, including on the status of the implementation of GFCM decisions and on the transmission of data by CPCs. Discussions also covered a range of topics relating to the fight against IUU fishing, including the introduction of new summary and supplementary tables to assess compliance, progress in the establishment of permanent catch documentation schemes, transshipment, the management of fishing capacity, and the monitoring of fisheries restricted areas. Stemming from the discussions of the various topics it addressed, the WGIUU also adopted a number of elements for the formulation of advice by the Compliance Committee to the Commission.
