EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The workshop on early diagnosis in protecting the aquaculture industry from disease was held online on 15 March 2022. The workshop was organized within the framework of Target 3.2 “Practices supporting the sustainability of the aquaculture industry fostered” of the GFCM 2030 Strategy for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. The main objective was to update contracting parties and cooperating non-contracting parties on finfish pathology, early diagnosis of disease surveillance and disease analysis biosecurity measures and to take stock of applied standards for the prevention and control of contaminants along the aquaculture value chain. The workshop provided an overview of the major aquaculture biosecurity concepts and presented an opportunity to share the latest scientific information regarding aquatic pathology to increase the overall competitiveness and sustainability of the Mediterranean mariculture sector.
