Один из вариантов используется в английском (tea), французском (thé), испанском (té) и нидерландском (thee) языках. Другой вариант происходит от слова "ча" (в северных и кантонском диалектах), например, "chai" на хинди, "shay" на арабском и "чай" на русском языке. Этому есть любопытное объяснение.
