Open call for the chairperson of the International Network on Soil Erosion (INSER)

FAO and its Global Soil Partnership (GSP) will convene the first Meeting of the International Network on Soil Erosion (INSER) on 21 April 2026. The meeting marks a key milestone in making INSER fully operational, following its official launch in September 2025.

12/03/2026

Soil erosion is one of the most serious global threats to food security, ecosystem stability and sustainable land management. Through INSER, scientists, policymakers, practitioners and institutions are joining forces to strengthen soil erosion assessment, promote effective conservation practices, support economic valuation, and advance enabling policies and legislation worldwide.

This first working meeting will focus on establishing INSER’s governance and leadership, including the election of the Chair, Steering Committee and Leads of the three technical working groups: Measuring, Modelling and Mapping; Soil and Water Conservation Practices; and Economic Valuation, Legislation and Policy. Participants will also discuss and approve the network’s operational modalities and priorities for 2026–2027.

The meeting is open to policymakers, researchers, international organizations, civil society, NGOs, land users and practitioners working on soil erosion and sustainable land management, and will provide an important opportunity to shape the future direction of global action on soil erosion.
