Country introduction:
Tonga is going to align it's GM food safety with the Codex Standards, Recommendation and Guidelines. The new Food Bill 2013 has got a clause stating the Codex Standards, Recommendation and Guidelines to be adopted in case, there is no national food standards is available.
Pursuant to the Tonga new Food Act 2020, the following provisions include Codex works:
32 (2) In establishing standards for food premises in the Kingdom, the Authority shall have due regard for –
(a) incorporating Codex standards at a pace
36(2) To the extent possible food standards shall be consistent with Codex and with provisions of this Act.
91(2) Notwithstanding the provisions of sub-section (1)(k), the standards, guidelines and recommended practices contained in the Codex Alimentarius adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission shall be deemed to apply as regulations under this Act until such time that regulations

My country is in the process in developing a regulatory framework that requires the competent authority to conduct safety assessment of GM food.

GM food safety assessment guidelines:
My country does not conduct safety assessment of GM food but the country has, or the country is in the process of developing national/regional guidelines that are in line with the Codex Guidelines in conducting safety assessment of GM food.
