Official launch of CountrySTAT in Togo
On 19 October 2012 the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, in collaboration with FAO and the Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa (UEMOA) will support the organization of the official launch of CountrySTAT in Togo.
The event took place in the premises of the hotel EDA-OBA in Lomé, and was attended by around 200 participants from the Ministries, representatives of the Technical and Financial Partners, Secretaries and General Managers of various departments, members of the Multidisciplinary Working Group CountrySTAT-Togo and the media.
The latest report published by FAO, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP) on the state of the food insecurity in the world underlines that the total number of undernourished people has been reduced by 132 million during the periods between 2010-12 and 1990-92, i.e. from 18.6% to 12.5% of the global population and from 23.2% to 14.9% in developing countries during the referred periods of time. However, nearly 870 million people, or one in eight, were still suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2010-2012, and in the world of unprecedented technical and economic opportunities, this is unacceptable.
The objective of the event is to increase visibility on the urgent need to implement policies aiming at reducing hunger and malnutrition. It is expected that CountrySTAT Togo will provide a powerful tool for decision-makers, development partners and other users in the fight against hunger and poverty in Togo.
