The project's purpose is to support the Djiboutian Government to secure water access for rural food-insecure and drought-affected people and their livestock assets through effective actions. The intervention will support the quick recovery of water access, fodder production, and safe milk and meat production. The target populations are the households who lost their assets and capacity to contribute to their food security because of the drought and the concurring breaking of several pumping systems and water infrastructure going beyond the ordinary maintenance capacities of the government.

The project aims to directly support the Government of Djibouti in distributing more than 160 000 kg of livestock feed, creating and rehabilitating more than 15 water points and distribution systems and supporting the transition from fossil fuel to photovoltaic energy to power the water stations. These interventions will benefit a total of 4 560 rural households.
